Jetstar flight JQ27 makes priority landing at Sydney International Airport

A Jetstar flight travelling from Sydney to Phuket made a priority landing back at Sydney International Airport after experiencing a ‘mechanical issue’ shortly after takeoff.

Pilots on board a Jetstar flight travelling to Phuket made a priority landing at Sydney Airport after reporting mechanical issues on-board.

A Jetstar spokesman confirmed the JQ27 flight landed safely at Sydney International Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

“Our flight from Sydney to Phuket landed normally this afternoon after returning to Sydney due to a mechanical issue,” he said.

“Our pilots requested a priority landing and emergency services met the aircraft as a precaution.

“One of the aircraft’s 10 wheels was damaged during take-off and our engineers are investigating the cause”.

The flight departed Sydney about 3.20pm however landed back at the major airport about 5pm after reporting the issue.

A Sydney Airport spokeswoman said the airport had returned to operating as normal despite the earlier issues.

“Our main runway was closed for approximately 30 minutes to allow the aircraft to land, get towed to a gate and for a runway inspection to take place,” she said.

“Normal operations have resumed and while we do not expect any significant disruptions, there may be some delays throughout the evening.

“We would like to thank passengers for their patience and encourage them to check the status of their flight with their airline or via Sydney Airport’s website.”
