Stanislava Pinchuk gets a successful shot at the big prize

Ukrainian-born artist Stanislava Pinchuk has been awarded this year’s Glenfiddich artists in residence prize for Australia.
Pinchuk is known for her work mapping conflict zones, including the Ukrainian civil war and Fukushima. She says as a Ukrainian and someone who lived in Japan around the time of the nuclear disaster, the events were formative to her and touched her life.
“I suppose you can’t help but make work about it,” she says. Having just returned from Chernobyl, Pinchuk admits the residency in Scotland will be a change of pace. “I don’t think I have been in the same place for three months for about 10 years,” she says.
“It might be a very welcome break after a very tense year and a half.” She says she will be thinking about the land, living off the land and understanding landscape in a completely different way to that of a conflict zone.
Pinchuk will live for three months at the Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown, Scotland, alongside other artists.
