Patrick Brammall and Trent O’Donnell’s No Activity returns to our screens today, having thrown off its legacy as an Australian series and now fully transformed into an enjoyable American one, with fresh jokes and comic conceits.

Brammall returns as detective Nick Cullen, alongside Tim Meadows as his partner Judd Tolbeck, both low-level cops who have spent far too much time in a car together.

Returning guest stars include Jake Johnson (New Girl), the wonderful Amy Sedaris (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Jason Mantzoukas (Netflix’s Big Mouth) and Academy Award-winner JK Simmons.

Joining the cast this season are Jessica Alba and Cristin Milioti (Black Mirror’s USS Callister) among others.

This second season finds Car 27 and detectives Cullen and Tolbeck on a new stake-out, while the police department is rocked by a corruption scandal.

Whereas season one of the American No Activity featured many of the jokes adapted from the first two Australian seasons, rendering the viewing experience somewhat disorienting and unoriginal for longstanding fans, this remake now has hit its straps and makes for very enjoyable viewing.

Also tonight, the second series of The Teach lands on SBS On Demand.

Set in Poland, it tells the story of Pawel “Belfer” Zawadzki (Maciej Stuhr), a teacher who moves around a lot for the secret purpose of solving crimes committed against students.

In this new season he has come to Wroclaw to solve the recent disappearance of three students from the school.

Complicating his mission is that his boss is blackmailing him, using his crimes committed during the investigation of the murder of Joanna Walewska, his own daughter. To confound his mission further, the missing students reappear before an even bigger tragedy befalls him and the school.

Fans of Euro crime dramas undoubtedly will love it.
