Paul Mescal to visit Australia for Gladiator II premiere
The Normal People breakout will be joined on the red carpet by co-stars Fred Hechinger and Connie Nielsen at the Darling Harbour Theatre on October 30.
Gladiator II star Paul Mescal will visit Sydney later this month for the Australian premiere of director Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated sequel to his 2000 film.
Mescal, 28, who has experienced a meteoric rise thanks to his starring roles in the television series Normal People and an Oscar-nominated turn in Aftersun, will be joined by co-stars Fred Hechinger and Connie Nielsen at the Darling Harbour Theatre on Wednesday, October 30.
The film, set for release on November 14, takes place decades after Scott’s Oscar best picture winner.
In Gladiator II, Mescal portrays Lucius Verus, the grown son of noblewoman Lucilla (Nielsen, reprising her role), who was sent away to Numidia as a child.
Living a peaceful life with his family, Lucius is thrust back into the violent world of Rome when a Roman fleet led by General Marcus Acacius (Pedro Pascal) decimates Numidia. Taken as a prisoner, he must survive the brutal Roman arena while confronting his past, his mother, and the man who symbolises everything he despises about the empire.
The film also stars Denzel Washington as Macrinus, a smooth-talking arms dealer whose fortune is built on the business of war.
Scott, 86, has high ambitions for the film, telling Empire Magazine it is “the best thing I ever made.”
“It’s fullbore, brutal action,” he said.
A limited number of tickets will be available for public purchase starting at 2:01 PM AEDT.
