Opera Australia had its origins in 1956 as a touring company under the auspices of the Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust. The first tour was a season of Mozart operas that started in Adelaide, and the company has grown in the years since to be one of the world’s busiest opera presenters.
A gala concert at the Sydney Opera House on Sunday, June 26, will feature popular arias and musical selections from the great operas — including Tosca, La Traviata and Carmen — with singers including Car, Jose Carbo, Emma Matthews, Milijana Nikolic and Diego Torre, as well as the Opera Australia Chorus.
Expect some special appearances, including conductor Simone Young leading the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. Tickets start at $44; a $1000 premium ticket includes a celebration dinner.
