A man linked to a Sydney caravan terror plot is being held in solitary confinement after being arrested over a separate incident, his brother says.
Documents obtained by the Herald reveal Scott Marshall, 36, who was named on a counter-terror warrant alongside his partner, Tammie Farrugia, 34, is accused of possessing the keys to a stolen Mitsubishi ASX, a Taser, knuckledusters and stolen or cloned number plates.
A Mitsubishi ASX was used in the lead-up to an antisemitic attack in Woollahra last year over which Farrugia has been charged. She is accused of procuring five jerry cans via Facebook groups, being a passenger in a stolen car and participating in a criminal group with Marshall and another unnamed person.
Marshall and Farrugia have not been charged after the discovery in Dural last month of the caravan containing Powergel explosives and the address of Sydney’s Great Synagogue. A counter-terror warrant named the duo alongside a third man.
Outside Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday, Scott’s brother, Stewart Marshall, said his brother is “innocent”, had “nothing to do with” the caravan plot and is not an antisemite.
“He’s just a good person – he doesn’t hate anyone. I don’t know why they’re doing it to him,” he said.
Scott learnt of the terror plot via media coverage in prison, Marshall said.
“He’s in NA [non-association, in custody], he’s not allowed to talk to anyone or associate with anyone.”
Stewart Marshall denied knowing anything about “James Bond”, who allegedly arranged payments for a failed arson attempt on a Bondi brewery that police suspected was an antisemitic incident.
“You’re the first person to mention James Bond. I haven’t heard anything about that,” he said.
The man had attended a brief mention in Liverpool Local Court for Farrugia.
Farrugia did not appear on screen as her charges were transferred from police prosecutors to the Department of Public Prosecutors on indictment.
Farrugia is facing the possibility of a jury trial and a longer sentence than if the matter had remained in the Local Court.
She will face the Downing Centre Local Court on April 3, the same day as Marshall.
