Officers attended the scene and performed CPR on the man – who is believed to be aged in his 30s - but he could not be revived.

Police established a crime scene and began inquiries into the circumstances of the incident.

Police said the man, who has not been formally identified, had suffered a head injury.

Acting Superintendent Mitchell Newton said the man was found by a member of the public who called triple zero.
