A woman who was allegedly killed by her partner in Sydney’s inner west can be revealed as a special needs teacher from Brazil.
Diogo De Oliveira, 40, briefly faced court on Monday over the alleged murder of his partner Catiuscia Machado at a Chiswick unit between Friday and Saturday night.
Court documents reveal Machado’s body was potentially left undiscovered for up to a day after her death.
Police were called to a unit at Bechert Road about 9.50pm on Saturday, following reports of a domestic incident.
They arrived to find Machado’s body. She is believed to have been in her 40s.
Police arrested De Oliveira at 10.15pm and took him to Burwood police station, where he was charged with domestic violence-related murder.
According to Machado’s LinkedIn profile, she was a special needs teacher who worked in the Brazilian city of Jaboatão dos Guararapes as recently as 2020. She had “experience in building rich educational environments and practices that generate learning, through intervention and prevention of learning and development problems”.
Authorities had been trying to contact Machado’s family in Brazil and delivered the news of her death about 2.30pm on Monday, police confirmed.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of her death.
Police confirmed De Oliveira and Machado were partners.
According to court documents, police allege De Oliveira murdered the woman between 6pm on Friday and 9.55pm on Saturday.
He appeared briefly at Burwood Local Court on Monday.
Defence lawyer Osman Samin did not apply for bail for his client.
He asked for an adjournment of the matter until January 24, which was accepted.
