Two people have been treated by paramedics after a fire broke out at a property in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, with firefighters able to prevent its spread to neighbouring homes.
Fire and Rescue NSW said on Monday afternoon the roof of the single-level cottage on Broadbent Street, Kingsford, had collapsed.
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said two people were treated at the scene, a woman aged in her 70s for smoke inhalation and a man in his 40s. Details of the man’s injuries or condition were not provided.
He said the fire was believed to have been caused by “an explosion from an electrical appliance”.
The patients did not need to be taken to hospital.
Twelve fire engines were called to the scene, after the fire was reported about 4.15pm on Monday.
A FRNSW spokesman said at 4.30pm that firefighters were inside the building and “other houses nearby [were] under threat”.
In an update on Monday night, FRNSW said all occupants had been accounted for and a ladder truck was used to extinguish the blaze from above.
“Two houses on either side have been checked by firefighters [and there was] no spread,” a spokesman said. “Fire investigators are en route to investigate the cause of the fire.”
Anzac Parade was closed northbound at Avoca Street due to the fire.
