A Jetstar flight was forced to make an emergency landing after one of the aircraft’s wheels was damaged during take-off from Sydney Airport, with the incident causing major delays.

International flight JQ27 from Sydney to Phuket landed safely just before 5pm on Wednesday after circling Sydney for almost two hours to burn and dump fuel.

A Jetstar spokesman confirmed the Boeing 787 Dreamliner landed normally after one of the aircraft’s wheels was damaged during take-off. No injuries were reported.

He said the pilot requested a priority landing, but no mayday call was made. Emergency services met the aircraft on landing as a precaution.

A video posted to TikTok by a person who said they were on board the aircraft showed passengers clapping as it landed safely.

“Plane popped a tire [sic] on the take-off and had to make an emergency landing back in sydney,” they wrote.

Hotel rooms have been arranged overnight for all passengers, who will depart Sydney at 11.15am on Thursday.

Footage from Sydney Airport posted on Facebook showed the aircraft being towed to an airport gate by ground crew.

Jetstar said engineers are investigating the cause.

Sydney Airport was experiencing delays of up to 70 minutes after the emergency landing. Several flights were diverted.

“Our main runway was closed for approximately 30 minutes to allow the aircraft to land, get towed to a gate, and for a runway inspection to take place,” a spokesperson for Sydney Airport said.
