A man who allegedly hurled antisemitic abuse from the front yard of a Bondi home at a woman walking past has faced court as police investigate a spate of attacks in Sydney’s east over the weekend.

The woman alleges she was targeted by 21-year-old Wendell Mumbulla as she was walking along Flood Street about 7.40am on Saturday. She flagged down officers connected to Strike Force Pearl, which investigates antisemitic incidents. They arrested the man in a unit on Bondi Road the next day.

On Monday, Mumbulla fronted Newtown Local Court where he pleaded guilty to stalking and intimidation with the intent of physical harm. He was refused bail and will be sentenced in February.

His arrest brings the individuals charged under Strike Force Pearl to 12.

The incident was one of a number of antisemitic attacks in the eastern suburbs over the weekend.

At 9.30pm on Saturday, a group of women were walking near Bondi Beach when another group pelted them with eggs.

About 30 minutes later, a silver Mazda crashed into a kerb. Three young men fled and were unable to be located by police.

Police allege they found a jerry can and a carton of eggs inside the car.

“[The women] were set upon by what we believe are the individuals from that silver Mazda,” Detective Superintendent Darren Newman said.

Newman did not say if the women were Jewish but said police believed they were targeted in an antisemitic attack because of what they were wearing.

On Sunday morning, police discovered further acts of antisemitic vandalism, this time in Kingsford and Randwick, with multiple cars and garages spray-painted with slurs.

Police are still hunting for the people responsible.
