Shell House

Sixpenny head chef Aaron Ward has left the snug embrace of Stanmore for the broad arms of the big city. He will be on the pans, taking up the role of head chef at this four-in-one venue, which will also include a cocktail bar, rooftop bar and bistro.

101 George Street

The Rocks has a new kid on the block with the latest from the Swillhouse Group (Shady Pines, Baxter Inn, Hubert, Alberto's Lounge) coming in hot on the old Phillip's Foote site, opposite the MCA. A pop-up Euro-style wine bar will be in place till early February, when construction begins on the permanent venue.

Fleet

The little 14-seat "restaurant that could" is on sabbatical, set to welcome guests again from March. The break is more than well deserved for the wife-and-husband team of Astrid McCormack and Josh Lewis who, in order to spend more time with family, transformed their Brunswick Heads bellwether into a cracking ramen bar for the second half of 2021.

Chef Jemma Whiteman (Billy Kwong, Pinbone, Lankan Filling Station, Cafe Paci) and Black Market Sake founder Matt Young (Fratelli Paradiso, 10 William St) have teamed up to give Newtown the sake bar it deserves. With 60 sakes by the glass and whatever deliciousness Whiteman decides to put on the plate, good times are sure to follow.
