Single mother Snezana Markoski has won the heart of Melbourne personal trainer Sam Wood in a heart-stopping season finale of The Bachelor.
After sending home runner-up Lana Jeavons-Fellows on Thursday night's episode, Wood told Markoski he had fallen in love with her and was ready for the responsibility of becoming a father figure to her daughter, Eve.
"I've fallen madly in love with you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Snezana," Wood said in a lavish candelit ceremony on a Blue Mountains property.
The 34-year-old Perth beauty had the longest odds to win the third season of the show due to the pair living on other sides of the country and Markoski having a nine-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
Wood presented Markoski with a $20,000 commitment ring, as well as a silver necklace for Eve, telling his new partner he was in her daughter's debt for convincing her to go on the show.
"You make me a better man," he said. "I want to spoil you and I want to look after you forever."
"I know it doesn't mean just looking after you, I know it also means looking after Eve."
Sydneysider Jeavons-Fellows was a late intruder to the show but was the fan favourite to win after swiftly stealing the heart of the Tasmanian-born bachelor.
Despite telling the communications professional he saw a future with her, Wood said he didn't think Jeavons-Fellows was the girl for him.
"My heart has taken me in another direction," Wood told the bubbly brunette, who later described herself as "numb".
"I know I said to you the first time I met you I'm going to follow my heart through this whole experience, and I just hope that you understand that I have to do that," he said.
Both women were also grilled by Wood's family during the low-key finale which was held at a country mansion in New South Wales.
While both Markoski and Jeavons-Fellows left good impressions, Markoski seemed to strike up a stronger connection with Wood's father, Andrew.
The two were moved to tears after talking about Wood's late mother, with Andrew later calling Markoski a "very special lady".
"I would be very happy to have her as a daughter in law," he said.
Wood and Markoski had undeniably chemistry throughout the season, sharing the first kiss of the show, as well as stolen moments on group dates and - controversially - in front of the other women.
The scientific sales rep acknowledged a future with her would be harder, but said the love her and Sam had would overcome that.
"I am a single mum and a future with me would be quite different, so Lana could definitely be easier choice, but it's not about whether it's going to be easier or harder."
"It's about being with the one that you truly love."
This year's low-key season finale was a far cry from the lavish South African proposal between Blake Garvey and Sam Frost in 2014.
Garvey proposed to Frost with a $58,000 engagement ring in Cape Town before dumping her for third runner-up Louise Pillidge.
Frost will get another chance at finding true love as the star of the first season of The Bachelorette, which premieres next week.
