Paul Gallen v Justin Hodges & Ben Hannant as it happened: Rematch on the cards as Gallen stops Hodges after being dropped

Well, the only thing more chaotic than that main event was the Bledisloe Cup opener in Melbourne. That was all kinds of insanity.

Just like the Bledisloe, there’s another battle between two rivals to come. Paul Gallen and Justin Hodges effectively came to an agreement in the ring after the former had his hand raised tonight. Gallen has one fight left on his contract, Hodges wants a rematch, and they’ll do it again by the end of the year.

Tonight Gallen has achieved what few have before. He has won two professional boxing bouts in one night. Love him or hate him, that is a special feat.

Justin Hodges wants a rematch, adamant he wasn’t hurt. He reckons that stoppage “was bullshit”. No Limit chief George Rose is keen to make the rematch happen in November.

Paul Gallen says he is “ready to retire” but he has one fight left on his contract. Justin Hodges has asked for a rematch, and Gallen is happy to oblige provided they do it in Sydney over six three-minute rounds.

It’s all over! The referee jumps in to stop the contest during the third round with Hodges copping an absolute battering against the ropes. Gallen goes two from two and comes from behind to win this one, his second triumph of the night.

Gallen finishes with a flurry and Hodges is on wobbly legs. This is absolute chaos in Brisbane. Hodges gets the round again after dropping Gallen. Gallen gets away with an illegal shot, surprised nobody lost points in that round.
