Bushfire emergency in WA’s Mid West

By Cameron Myles

An emergency warning is in place as a bushfire rages in the state’s Mid West region.

Residents in the Shire of Irwin have been urged to flee to Port Denison, where an evacuation centre has been set up at the Irwin Recreation Centre on Ridley Street.

The emergency warning covers the Irwin Settlement and south of Midlands Road, and for those north of Midlands Road between Tabletop Road and Pettit Road.

Due to the size of the emergency warning area, residents are urged to flee north, south, east or west depending on their respective locations.

The fire has been burning since Saturday morning and is not contained or controlled.

So far, it has burnt about 2000 hectares.
