THE youth crime wave gripping Malak and Karama, and more recently the rural area, is on its way to being under control, according to Casuarina police station Superintendent Sean Parnell.
Since the youth operation began three weeks ago, 19 prosecutions have commenced.

Police have had an increased presence in the area to stop the petty theft, smashing of car windows and break-ins reported by fed-up residents.
“We haven’t seen the surge in youth activity that we saw at Karama or Malak appear anywhere else, so from that perspective it would be working at the moment,” he said.
Member for Karama, Ngaree Ah Kit, held a meeting on Wednesday night with eight select community members.
The decision to allow only a few concerned residents has angered the community, but Ms Ah Kit said a whole of community event would be held on December 14.

“This is about giving residents a community voice and enabling the group to work closely with Police, Territory Families and Housing on these complex issues that have been around for decades,” she said.
