A woman has spat into the face of a female police officer as she was being taken into protective custody overnight. She faces charges for the THIRD TIME for the same offence.

A WOMAN has spat into the face of a female police officer as she was being taken into protective custody overnight.

Police were called to help the woman after she was found lying on the road in the Nightcliff area by a concerned member of the public.

NT Police Northern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Sonia Kennon said the intoxicated woman was placed into protective custody.

“As police members were conveying her into the watch-house she turned her head and spat on the face of a female police officer,” she said.

“Upon her release from protective custody this morning, she will be arrested and charged with assault police.”

Sen Sgt Kennon said it would be the third time the woman will have been charged for the offence of spitting on a police officer.

“Of note is that this will be the third time this female has been arrested and charged for the same offence, previously spitting on police officers in 2018 and 2020 and receiving a term of imprisonment,” she said.

“The police officer involved will be required to undergo a medical examination to ensure that she has not contracted any infections diseases.”
