VICTORIAN silk Nick Papas QC has been appointed acting NT Director of Public Prosecutions as outgoing DPP Jack Karczewski QC commences extended personal leave.
Mr Papas has extensive experience in criminal law from the prosecution and defence side of the bar table in the NT, other Australian jurisdictions and internationally.
The former Victorian Chief Magistrate also served as Deputy Commissioner of the NT Independent Commission Against Corruption.

Last year, Mr Papas headed up the prosecution for the high profile trial of former police officer Peter Bravos, who was acquitted of rape in August.
Mr Karczewski plans to retire later this year after more than eight years in the role and a 37-year career in the NT justice system.
Mr Papas takes over the role from July 12.
Victoria Engel has been appointed Deputy DPP to replace Matt Nathan SC, who left the role last week.
