UPDATE: Police have charged a fourth person relating to a “violent riot” in which fireworks were allegedly fired directly at locals in the remote Kalkarindji community.
Police confirmed the altercation took place between non-locals who were employed in the community and allegedly set off live fireworks directly at members of the Victoria River region community.

Superintendent Kirk Pennuto said a number of charges had been laid on alleged offenders.
“One man has now been charged with assault and fireworks offences, bailed and was expelled from the community by the community,” he said.
“Investigations are continuing and police expect to lay further charges in relation to this particular incident.”
EARLIER: Police have charged three people after reports of a “violent riot” in the remote Kalkarindji community.
Reports emerged of a disturbance in the town over the weekend, with one eyewitness saying she felt unsafe after the ordeal.
The witness said three carloads of men arrived at the local meatworks on Sunday night and allegedly assaulted a staff member.
More police were deployed to the town following the incident, in which men allegedly threw cement powder in employees’ faces, destroyed items, broke into a home and set a car alight.
In a statement on Thursday afternoon, NT Police said they had charged three people in relation to the situation.
A 56-year-old man will face charges of assaulting a worker and property damage and a 47-year-old has been charged with damaging a vehicle.
