NT POLICE have stopped a stolen car mid-traffic and caught its juvenile occupants in Alice Springs after deploying a tyre deflation device.

NT Police Southern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Shaun Furniss said police had received reports of a stolen Corolla Sedan being driven amid traffic on Larapinta Drive about 3.30pm yesterday.

He said the car had allegedly been stolen during an unlawful entry at a unit in the Araluen area the previous night.

“Our members were able to deploy tyre deflation device on the vehicle, and it deflated all four tyres,” he said.

“It stopped near Diorama Village, and three female youths got out of the vehicle and ran.

“Police units in the area were able to chase them on foot and apprehend them.”

Snr Sgt Furniss said the car’s occupants were three girls aged 16, 15 and 14.
