POLICE are investigating the death of a woman following a car fire on the Stuart Hwy near Daly Waters on Friday.
Shortly after midday officers and medical staff responded to a report the 63-year-old had suffered burns after the fire started in the cargo space of a Commodore ute.

In a statement police said they believed the woman had been travelling in the ute’s tray when the fire broke out.
The woman was treated for serious burns and flown to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment but succumbed to her injuries and died on Saturday afternoon.

Detectives from the northern investigations unit are looking into the death and are appealing for anyone who may have any information about the incident to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, quoting reference number 9378627.
