Police charge driver over serious Bees Creek crash

NT POLICE have charged the driver of an ATV that crashed in the Darwin rural area with a string of offences, including dangerous driving causing harm and driving under the influence

NT POLICE have charged the driver of an ATV involved in a serious crash in Bees Creek this morning with a string of offences, including dangerous driving causing harm and driving under the influence.

Police say the 35-year-old man was driving a Honda ATV with a 33-year-old female passenger when the vehicle left the road and rolled multiple times on Bees Creek Rd about 1.30am.

Both the driver and passenger were still in Royal Darwin Hospital as of Sunday evening.

The woman was in a critical condition and the man has non-life threatening injuries.

Police on Sunday afternoon charged the man with dangerous driving causing harm, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving unregistered and driving uninsured.

He has been remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Local Court on Tuesday, January 5.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said when the vehicle crashed it had left the road, hit a street sign and rolled several times before landing on its roof in a culvert.

“The occupants of the vehicle were not wearing helmets but it appears they did have their seatbelts on,” he said.
