POLICE dished out 125 banning notices to people across the NT in 2019-20 in an effort to curb alcohol-related offences.
The notices handed out under the Liquor Act give police the power to ban someone from a high-risk area for up to 14 days.
Police can also use the power if they believe that an offence is likely to be committed.
The 2019-2020 NT Police annual report found that of the 117 people slapped with a banning notice last financial year, 48 were youths aged between 9 and 17.
Most people received one notice but four were given notices twice and two people were given three notices in the year to July.

NT Police Commander Matthew Hollamby urged all Territorians to drink responsibly.
“Anyone of any age who receives a banning notice is of concern to police,” he said.
“A banning notice is issued if someone has committed an alcohol-related offence in a high risk area, or police believe that an offence is likely to be committed.”
People can be given a banning notice for a range of reasons including riotous, offensive, disorderly behaviour, loitering following a notice, drug possession, common assault, stealing and failing to leave a high risk area.
In Darwin 25 notices were handed out, 41 in Palmerston, 57 in Alice Springs and two in Katherine.
