OPPOSITION Leader Lia Finocchiaro has said increased reports of violence across the Territory need to be addressed “with urgency” after the heartbreaking assault of an Aboriginal woman was caught on film.
The video, given to the NT News, shows a man assaulting a woman at the Buffalo Creek boat ramp last week.
Both are understood to have been under the influence of alcohol.
The woman was punched, thrown to the ground and kicked, and it was alleged by a bystander the offender tried to drown her.
“This sort of behaviour is abhorrent and should be condemned,” said Ms Finocchiaro.

“I am very concerned by increasing reports of violence across the Territory and it’s something the Gunner Labor government needs to address with urgency.
“Police are under-resourced and our criminal justice system is weighted too far in favour of offenders, not victims.”
“We need to target repeat offenders. If the Gunner Labor Government doesn’t act soon, it is risking the Northern Territory we know and love.”
Police Minister Nicole Manison said investments in police and Territory Families services, and alcohol reforms, had proven to reduce alcohol-related assaults.
