Kian Wise granted bail after Christmas Eve brawl

A NIGHTCLIFF Tigers player allegedly involved in a “ferocious” attack on a naked, unconscious man after a night out at Monsoons will be allowed to play while out on bail.

Kian Wise, 20, was released on bail on Tuesday after being charged with intentionally causing serious harm following a violent Mitchell St “frenzy” on Christmas Eve last year.

“This included (Wise), in what can only be described as a grossly cowardly fashion, punching the victim in the head from behind while the victim was being assaulted by (his) associate,” Chief Justice Michael Grant said.

“While the victim was lying unconscious and naked on the ground, (Wise) ran over and attempted to kick him in the head.”

But Nightcliff president Mark Dodge told the NT News as the case was still before the court, the club wouldn’t be taking any disciplinary action and Wise would be free to take the field.

“As he hasn’t yet been before the court to have his matter heard, as long as he meets his bail requirements and comes to training and if he wants to, he would be eligible for selection,” he said.

Wise has been one of the Tigers’ top scorers in division two this season, having played 12 games for the club, including one for their division one side.

If Wise does put his hand up to play while out on bail it will likely be with an ankle bracelet fitted after the court ordered he submit to electronic monitoring.
