TWO women who were trapped under a LandCruiser at the Darwin City post office, in what appears to be a freak accident, have miraculously escaped with only minor injuries.
A 75-year-old woman and an 82-year-old woman were reversed into along the corner of Litchfield and Edmunds streets about 2.45pm yesterday.
A witness said the two women were reportedly hit by the car after leaving a hair salon in the area.
A second witness said the scene was “horrific” and that the driver of the car was in shock.
“I don’t know what happened, I don’t know how they’re alive,” she said.
“It was just horrendous. I don’t know how their legs aren’t crushed.”
Paramedics, police and firefighters flocked to the scene, which a St John Ambulance spokeswoman initially described as a “serious situation”.
The spokeswoman later said the women were stable. An NT Health spokesman said as of Friday morning, the women were still stable.
“Both appear to be in a stable condition and are about to be transported to hospital,” she said.
“They’ve received some abrasions and burning.
“We’re unable to confirm any other details regarding their injuries at this stage.”
NT Police also confirmed the women received non-life threatening injuries.
It comes after two men also escaped serious injury following a collision on Bagot Road last month.
One of the men reportedly stumbled onto the road and hit the car, which stopped to help him on October 16.
A group from nearby flats then came to the scene and began attacking the driver, who had to defend themself before driving to the nearby shops to call the police and ambulance.
Both pedestrians were taken to hospital in a stable condition.
