Man charged with causing a bushfire in Darwin rural area
A 57-YEAR-OLD man who allegedly lit a bushfire that caused significant damage to buildings and bushland has been charged.

A 57-YEAR-OLD man who allegedly lit a bushfire that caused significant damage to buildings and bushland has been charged.
The fire occurred in the Batchelor region on Tuesday, August 18 and caused substantial damage to a number of buildings as well as bushland.
The man was charged by detectives from the Serious Crime Squad following an investigation.
He is scheduled to appear in Darwin Local Court on Friday, September 25.

The alleged incident took place a week before Top End firefighters batted some of the worst fire conditions experienced in years.
The fire danger rating reached catastrophic in the Darwin and Adelaide River region last Thursday.
