A MAN charged with indecently assaulting an eight-year-old girl through a car window has faced court for the first time.
The 49-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in the Darwin Local Court on Thursday charged with committing an act of gross indecency against a child under 16.
According to NT Police, the man was arrested following an incident in Casuarina on Wednesday afternoon where a woman briefly left her car with her three daughters, aged eight and 18-month old twins, in the car.

She returned to her car and saw the 49-year-old allegedly with his arm inside the vehicle, with the eight-year-old saying the man had allegedly touched her indecently.
The man was remanded in custody to return to court in May.
