THE former officer in charge of the Jabiru fire station who beat up his wife and two other women in a drunken stupor has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault.

Damien Parker, 53, also pleaded guilty in the Darwin Local Court to property damage and drink-driving following the incident at his home on September 5 last year.

The court heard Parker had consumed “a large amount of beer, wine and whiskey” with his wife Karreen Noble and her two relatives Sarah and Rita Pikari, when he became belligerent shortly after midnight.

The Pikaris have a young child together and Parker told them “you tarts need to leave, I’m going to throw that two-year-old kid out of this house”.

When Karreen asked him “Why would you say that?” Parker replied “Who the f*** do you think you are?” and punched her in the mouth.

The court heard that as the two other women moved towards Parker in an attempt to protect Karreen, he also began throwing punches at them, causing them both to fall to the ground.

Parker then stood over Rita and continued to pummel her as the two other women tried to pull him away before Sarah also ended up back on the ground and he kicked them both, the court heard.

As the three women retreated inside and called triple-0, Parker picked up a 28cm filleting knife from his boat and paced angrily outside the house before asking his wife to give him the keys to his fire service ute.

Karreen threw them out the door to him as he said “I’m going to do it” and “Watch this darl” before stabbing her car tyre with the knife, causing it to deflate, the court heard.

Parker got in the ute and drove to the fire station where he was found by police, still drunk, and claimed his police officer ex-wife had been driving and took off with the keys before accidentally dropping them while trying to hide them from the officers.

His lawyer, Peter Maley, said Parker was so drunk he only had a “piecemeal at best” recollection of the evening but had since stopped drinking and apologised to his wife, to whom he was now “a model husband”.

Mr Maley said Parker had been asked to show cause as to why he shouldn’t be fired from his job as a firefighter but instead “fell on his sword” and resigned.
