“Unfortunately at the moment Tennant Creek does seem to be a locality where people are simply ignoring our warnings,” he said.
“The reality for the crime spikes in Tennant Creek are that numbers aren’t necessarily large but the change in numbers do realise a significant increase.
“There’s a lot of good things about Tennant Creek and if we work together as a community I’m sure we’ll get a positive result there by the time the next crime statistics come around.”
Mr Chalker said despite police having issued more than 30 infringement notices for breaching the Chief Health Officer’s directions, overall Territorians were taking the crisis seriously.
“In general I think the compliance has been outstanding,” he said.
“They know that everything we’re doing is for their best interest and compliance, by and large, has been exceptional.”

Police Minister Nicole Manison said the decision was made to graduate the new recruits six weeks early to give the force more boots on the ground during the pandemic.
“On Tuesday we watched the construction begin on the new Nightcliff police station — today we are graduating another 56 constables,” she said.
“I congratulate them on their graduation and wish them all the best as they start their careers as a Northern Territory Police Officer.”
