A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged after an alleged ‘violent’ group fight involving a machete and rocks happened last night in Darwin’s CBD.
At around 7.35pm on Monday, an alleged group fight in a Cavenagh Street carpark was reported to the Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre.
It was said one person was allegedly armed with a machete and was “swinging” it at those involved while others were throwing rocks.
Security staff managed to intervene and allegedly managed to confiscate the weapon from a young man before the group took off.
A spokesperson for NT Police said officers attended and arrested the 19-year-old man nearby.
“He remains in custody and has been charged with Going armed in public, Breach of bail and Furnish false particulars,” a spokesperson said.
“He is expected to appear in Darwin Local Court on July 29.
“Further investigations are being undertaken to identify an additional primary alleged offender involved in the incident.”
