MAJOR crash investigators are on their way to a Top End remote community after a fatal crash overnight.

Police and the local clinic in Yarralin community, around 390km southwest of Katherine, received reports of a crash about 16km from the community at around 10.30pm.

Initial investigations indicate the car, which had three people inside, had rolled.

One person, whose gender and age in unknown, died at the scene while the two other occupants were taken via CareFlight to the Royal Darwin Hospital.

One of the people is in a critical condition and the other is stable.

Northern Watch Commander Tony Deutrom said the cause of the crash is unknown and a crime scene has been established.

The crash brings the road toll for 2020 to 27, compared to 23 the same time last year.
