A MAN and woman pulled over by police for having “excessive” tyres have wound up behind bars after cops allegedly discovered a large stash of cannabis in their HiLux.
Northern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Sonia Kennon said the vehicle was pulled over on Thursday afternoon by Darwin police as its “tyres were considered excessive in width and protruding from the vehicle”.
“As the members spoke to the driver and passenger they noticed a strong smell of cannabis emanating from the vehicle,” Sen Sgt Kennon said.
She said four large garbage bags of cannabis material and unsecured ammunition were allegedly found in the ute during a search.

She said the find then led to police conducting two more raids with officers allegedly seizing more cannabis and other drug paraphernalia.

The duo have been charged with drug offences and are due to appear in court this morning.
