The driver of an allegedly stolen car has been arrested following a police pursuit through Darwin’s suburbs overnight.

NT Police Northern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Andrew Heath said about 5.20am this morning, police CCTV operators spotted a Kia Rio in the Darwin CBD that had allegedly been stolen from a Parap home on April 30.

The car was seen to be travelling outbound on Tiger Brennan Drive, before it turned left onto Amy Johnson Drive and continued on into Karama.

Police developed a plan to stop the vehicle involving a number of police cars and the deployment of tyre deflation devices in strategic locations.

Police began to pursue the Kia on Vanderlin Drive, but the car did not stop and instead continued down Lee Point Road towards Buffalo Creek.

When the car conducted a U-turn to avoid police and head back toward Lyons, its tyres were spiked and deflated.

A 32-year-old woman who was driving the car stopped the vehicle and tried to run away, but police arrested her after a short foot chase.

The woman was taken to the Darwin Watch House for processing.

She is expected to be charged and appear in Darwin Local Court today.
