NT Police have been conducting “proactive patrols” throughout the Darwin central business district “targeting youth activity and offending”.
The units, including officers from Strike Force Trident, were active mainly during the evening and at night time after a reported spate of disturbances involving youths in the CBD.
Assistant Commissioner Travis Wurst said during three days last weekend, police took 19 youths off the street and returned them to the care of a responsible adult.
Mr Wurst said police intervened in one “small disturbance at the bus exchange involving youth who were dispersed from the area” and made one arrest of a 15-year-old girl for a historical stealing offence.
He said “reassurance patrols” would continue to be carried out to return wayward youths to their parents or guardians. “Strike Force Trident has seen some youth that would normally congregate in the northern suburbs begin to congregate in the CBD,” he said.
“Police have met, and will continue to meet with, businesses and stakeholders from the Darwin CBD area to discuss and implement practical measures to curb anti-social youth behaviour.
