THE man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in her own home in Parap has appeared in court for the first time.
The 25-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in Darwin Local Court via video link from prison on Tuesday.
It is alleged that the defendant broke into the apartment of the 38-year-old alleged victim about 12.20am on April 1 through her unlocked balcony door.
He then allegedly forced her into her bedroom and sexually assaulted her before fleeing the apartment.
The woman suffered lacerations and fractures to her face, a broken arm and cuts and bruises to her body.
The alleged offender was arrested in Moulden last Thursday by members of the NT Police Sex Crimes Unit, with the assistance of the Territory Response Group, Palmerston general duties officers and negotiators.

He was remanded in custody and will return to court on June 3.
No application for bail was made.
