POLICE Minister Nicole Manison has vigorously rejected claims that the government issued a directive for police not to report certain serious crimes.

It comes after Police Commissioner Jamie Chalker defended a police decision to not report on the arrest of a registered sex offender who was reportedly caught outside the Darwin bedroom of an eight-year-old girl with a “rape kit.”

The NT Police also recently came under fire for taking four days to publicly report on the alleged rape of a three-year-old boy in Karama.

On Mix 104.9 on Tuesday, Minister Manison was grilled by radio presenter Katie Woolf if there had been a directive from the government for police to not report on particular offences.

“What rubbish!” she said.

“That’s completely out of line.

“I’m telling you very, very straight, Katie, it’s just absolute nonsense, rubbish!”

She said police have to consider a raft of different things when they determine what they put out to the public.
