May 3: A 2.7 magnitude earthquake was recorded south of Tanami on Friday morning.

The quake was recorded at 3.41 am this morning and had a depth of 10kms, according to Geoscience Australia.

The epicentre of the earthquake is roughly 83kms south of Tanami Mine and 75kms from the WA border.

When questioned about the earthquake, one worker at the Newmont gold mine described the quake as “news to me.”

She said night shift workers felt nothing, with operations running as usual and that no damage was reported as a result.

Alice Springs police investigating Gillen robbery of woman, 68, after man flees scene

May 2: A man is on the run after he allegedly threatened a 68-year-old woman in her home and robbed her.

Southern Watch Commander Andrew Dunn said the man allegedly pried the security screen off the woman’s front door before forcing his way into the Gillen home at 11.12pm Wednesday.

Sergeant Dunn said the man allegedly threatened the “extremely traumatised” woman and rummaged through several of her home’s rooms.

He alleged the man – described as an 18- to 20-year-old Indigenous man wearing a hoodie – fled the Peddler St residence with an unknown number of the woman’s personal items.

Sergeant Dunn said the woman was uninjured in the incident.

He urged any witnesses to contact police, particularly those with CCTV or dashcam footage of the surrounding streets between 10pm-11.30pm Wednesday.

He said witnesses should quote reference number NTP2400043528.

Police attend Amoonguna school attempted break-in

April 29: Northern Territory police say they have identified three youths who were allegedly involved in an Alice Springs attempted robbery over the weekend.

Police said they received reports of an alleged attempted burglary at a school in Amoonguna at 7pm Saturday.

When police arrived at the scene, they said they identified a number of damaged entrances to the school along with a vehicle that was “also extensively damaged” and was “not currently operable.”

Police said “individual referrals for each child have been made to Territory Families” and the youths were identified through a CCTV review.

Woman, 54, arrested after alleged stabbing in Sadadeen

April 28: At 7.50pm Saturday police received reports a 54-year-old woman allegedly stabbed a 32-year-old woman in the parking lot of Spearwood Rd, Sadadeen, home.

The 54-year-old was found and arrested a short time later, she remains in custody and is expected to be charged.

The victim was taken to Alice Springs Hospital where she was treated for serious injuries.

Police believe the two women are known to each other.

Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact 131444.
