Two in custody and child in care after alleged break-in of Palmerston venue

Police arrested two adults and a child was taken into care after an alleged break-in at a Palmerston venue.

Two adults are in police custody following an alleged unlawful entry attempt at Palmerston in the early hours of Friday.

A child under the age of 10 was also with the pair at the time of the alleged offending.

Police allege the group tried to break into a licensed premises in the CBD around 2.30am, with CCTV playing a key role in detecting the offenders.

“The early detection by Police CCTV operators, and the prompt attendance by Palmerston General Duties members prevented any serious damage to the premises or property being stolen,” Northern Watch Commander Rob Overall said.

As the child was under the age of criminal responsibility, they were taken into care by police and handed over to “a responsible adult”.

Two adults, aged 38 and 30, were taken into custody and were expected to be charged.

The arrests follow an alleged aggravated carjacking in Fannie Bay on Wednesday.

The alleged incident took place about 8pm at a service station on Ross Smith Ave.

“The driver entered the store when he was confronted by two unknown men,” a police spokesman said.

“The group (has) engaged in an argument before the driver was allegedly threatened with a weapon.

“Both offenders have then left in the victim’s vehicle.”

The stolen black Holden Astra was later found abandoned in Yarrawonga, an outer suburb of Palmerston.

The Dog Operations Unit found one of the offenders nearby in bushland.
