Two men left injured in assault

NT Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault in which two men in Alice Springs were left with serious injuries.

Around 10.30pm on September 18 two men, aged 45 and 47 years old, were travelling inbound on Gap Road in a silver Nissan Navara.

They were near the 24-hour store when it is alleged there was a near miss with another vehicle, a black Holden Commodore, and a verbal altercation commenced between the drivers.

The driver of the commodore conducted a u-turn and it is alleged he armed himself with a large, blunt metal object.

He then engaged the occupants of the navara, assaulting both and smashing the front passenger window of the vehicle.

The offender fled the scene on foot and a passenger in the commodore used the vehicle to flee the scene upon police arrival.

Patrols of the area were unable to locate the fleeing pair and the victims were transported to Alice Springs Hospital.

Police are calling for anyone who witnessed the incident or may have information in relation to the driver of the black Holden Commodore, to contact them on 131 444.

Two girls charged in relation to alleged assault

A WOMAN who was dragged along the ground after she refused to give up her handbag has been treated in hospital and two teenage girls have been charged for the alleged assault.

It is alleged just after 5pm on Wednesday, the two youths approached a 54-year-old woman from behind and grabbed the woman’s handbag.

The woman held onto the bag and was dragged to the ground and physically assaulted by the pair, who fled the area after multiple witnesses intervened.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment where she was later released.

Investigations by Strike Force Viper identified the two offenders who were arrested and charged late Thursday.

The pair, both aged 15, will appear before court each charged with two counts each of assault with intent to steal and two counts of serious breach of bail.

Search for hero driver

NT Police are appealing for a driver of a vehicle, who saved a woman from being further assaulted in Alice Springs earlier this week, to contact them.

Between 9 and 10pm on Tuesday, a 34-year-old woman was walking in scrubland along Larapinta Drive when it is alleged she was physically assaulted multiple times by a man who is known to her.

The woman managed to escape the man running onto the road where a man driving a white Toyota utility stopped and collected her.

He then drove the woman to Alice Springs Hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Inquiries continue into locating the 34-year-old male offender.

Police still wish to speak with the driver of the vehicle, who they believe will have information to assist the investigation.

Senior Constable Christopher Ship urged the person to step forward stating they were not in trouble.

“This driver is not in any trouble. We believe he will have information that can assist our case and bring the offender to justice,” he said.
