A popular Australian social media identity has featured the Northern Suburbs in his latest YouTube video, which has attracted more than 350,000 views in just two days.

Creator Anthony Lees, known as Spanian, is known for diving into the most notorious areas across Australia and abroad to get a feel for crime rates in the region.

The Sydney-based influencer popped up recently in the Top End, first releasing a video for his Into The Hood series, exploring Palmerston.

That first video now has half a million views.

But he didn’t stop there, and has now released a second video, this time exploring Karama and Litchfield Estate.

The video is 56 minutes long and is titled Inside Darwin’s Most Dangerous Housing Estates - Karama and Litchfield Estate – Into The Hood.

Karama was his first port of call before he was guided by a group of locals towards the housing estate known as Litchy.

“This is the hood of this place. Everyone here knows it, it’s on the news all the time,” Mr Lees said.

“Apparently the violent assaults rate have increased by almost 100 per cent in the past six years.

“As the rest of the country gets better and better, it seems this place [the Northern Territory] gets worse and worse.”

During the tour he expressed shock when told stories of crime, particularly of assault and domestic violence.

Stories of rape and murder leaving him at a loss for words.

He was also surprised by the spiked gates which were apparent on almost every laneway in the suburbs, and security cameras creating an environment he referred to as “like a low security prison”.

After leaving the suburb he reflected on the stories he had heard as some of the worst of anywhere he had been in the world.

“Life in Darwin, I’ve seen nothing like it,” he said.

“I’m not trying to be harsh to Darwin, but the state of this place, the crime stories I’ve been hearing – they’re not even crime stories.

“There’s something way deeper wrong with this place than goes by the description of a hood, it’s just sad on a way different level.”
