Bikies in Australia- A short history

A TRIO who allegedly killed a dog in a bikie attack on a Palmerston home are expected to plead guilty, a court has heard.

Patrick John Mulhall, Shane Robert Mulhall and Brandt Graham appeared together in matching orange uniforms over a video link in Darwin Local Court on Wednesday.

The men are accused of breaking in and ransacking a Driver home on Sunday evening, February 27. Police allege the group attacked two dogs, killing one and seriously injuring another.

The NT Gangs Task Force investigated the alleged attack and arrested the Mulhalls and Graham.

Police alleged the men and the owner of the home knew each other.

Three months after the alleged attack, prosecutors and defence representatives said they were ready to make a plea of guilty.

The two Mulhalls and Graham were silent as they appeared before Judge Michael Carey. They made no acknowledgment of the three women who waved from the courtroom gallery as their image flashed on the screen.

The court heard the suspected bikie members were expected to make a plea but Mr Carey said there was no time to hear from their three legal teams and the prosecution.

Prosecutor Marty Aust said there were some “moving parts” that would be triggered by the men’s plea.

“Perhaps … we could at least get the entered so that the matter is along the way,” Mr Aust asked.

He said if a guilty plea was entered, files against the men would be withdrawn. Mr Aust indicated the prosecution were pushing for a non-parole prison sentence.

Barrister Peter Maley, representing Shane Mulhall, said it would be a brief hearing,

“The facts have been drawn down and the supercharges have been withdrawn,” Mr Maley said.

He argued that, with the exception of a supervision assessment, his client was ready to make a plea.

Shane was charged with unlawful entry, damage to property, and aggravated cruelty to animals.

Patrick was charged with unlawful entry, damage to property, aggravated cruelty to animals, possessing a trafficable amount of drugs, and driving while disqualified – all in breach of his bail.

Graham also faced drug possession charges, unlawful entry, damage to property, aggravated cruelty to animals, and not stopping after a crash.

Mr Carey said because of time pressures and conflicting court timetables the matter would be delayed until August 2.
