Outback Wrangler Matt Wright and former top Territory cop Neil Mellon have had their bail conditions “relaxed” in relation to their alleged involvement in a conspiracy to destroy evidence in a fatal chopper crash in remote West Arnhem Land last year.

Wright, Mellon, and the third man charged over the alleged cover-up – Remote Helicopters Australia owner Michael Keith Burbidge – were not present at Darwin Local Court when their cases were heard on Wednesday afternoon.

Lawyers for the trio requested prosecutors provide them with a full brief of evidence in preparation for the December dates set aside to determine whether the case will go to trial.

Burbidge’s lawyer, Paul Crean, told the court “significant amounts” of documents had not yet been shared with the defence teams.

Judge Therese Austin ordered the documents be provided by July 31, and also approved variations to both Wright and Mellon’s bail requirements.

It was revealed Mellon was “possibly” in the process of moving house, and an additional residential address was added to his bail.

Crown prosecutor Steven Ledek said there was “no opposition” to the changes.

“It’s a local move and I understand the circumstances,” he said.

Wright’s six existing bail requirements were reduced to three, however the details of the changes remained under wraps.

It is understood previous bail arrangements named 39 people Wright was forbidden to contact.

Mr Ledek said Wright had been complying with police requirements to date.

“By agreement of the parties we’ve now reached a sunset clause or a sunset provision with respect to the strictures that were previously applied, and police are happy for that to have been relaxed,” he said.

Co-star of the Outback Wrangler reality show Chris ‘Willow’ Wilson was killed when a Robinson R44 crashed while on a crocodile eggs collecting mission on February 28 last year.

Police have alleged in the wake of the crash Wright, Burbidge and Mellon all conspired to destroy evidence, made false declarations, and attempted to pervert the course of justice.

Burbidge and Wright were also charged with fabricating evidence.

None of the three men have entered pleas.
