A live crocodile, a gun, and the nose of a swordfish were some of the items seized from the home of a man as he was charged over a brutal Katherine assault.

The 32-year-old Girraween man was arrested in Acacia Hills on Tuesday after an investigation by Serious Crime detectives into the alleged assault on October 10 last year.

It is alleged the 32-year-old was one of two men who assaulted three people sleeping in a shelter on First St in Katherine’s CBD.

A search warrant was conducted on the man’s Girraween residence where a number of illegal items were seized including an unsecured firearm, a swordfish rostrum and the crocodile.

The man has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault, possessing or using a firearm unlicensed and without a permit, and failing to meet storage requirements.

He was bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court on June 13, 2023.

Investigations into the assaults are ongoing.
