Police attend ‘suspicious’ Wagaman school fire, call for witnesses

Police are calling for information following a ‘suspicious’ fire at Wagaman Primary School on Thursday night.

POLICE are calling for information following a “suspicious” fire at Wagaman Primary School on Thursday night.

Emergency services were called to the school at about 7.30pm where they found earthmoving equipment belonging to contractors working on site on fire.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier said “the fire was quickly extinguished”.

“(But) after assessing the scene there were a number of suspicious elements to the fire,” he said.

“Anyone who was in the area and noticed any suspicious activity, or who has dashcam or CCTV footage from around that time is asked to contact police on 131 444.”

Arrest after alleged attack left woman unconscious, bleeding

A WOMAN has been arrested in relation to an assault which left another woman with a serious head injury in Alice Springs early on Friday morning.

Around 2am a witness alerted police to an injured woman on the ground near the railway line on Bloomfield St.

Police and St John NT attended and took the woman to Alice Springs Hospital in a serious condition.

Detective Acting Superintendent Michael Schumacher said the two women were known to each other, with the second being arrested a short time later.

“A woman known to the victim was arrested a short time later and is assisting police with inquiries,” he said.

Woman taken to hospital in Alice Springs

A WOMAN has been taken to hospital after she was found unconscious and bleeding heavily from her head in Alice Springs.

NT Police had received reports a woman was found unconscious with head injuries about 2am on Friday.

The woman, who suffered a big laceration and blood loss, was found by a bystander in Bloomsfield on Friday.

NT Police allege her wounds are from an assault.

A woman has been arrested.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to call 131 444.

Woman charged after alleged violent attack

A 37-YEAR-OLD woman has been charged after she allegedly brutally attacked a man with a weapon.

NT Police allege the woman was involved in a violent altercation between three people on Monday night.

A 36-year-old man was left in a serious condition but remains in a stable condition at Royal Darwin Hospital.

Detectives from Serious Crime arrested the woman on Wednesday.

She has since been charged with one count of acts intended to cause serious harm.

The woman was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court on Thursday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier thanked the public for the information they have provided.

“Police would like to thank the members of public who provided information and those who stopped to render first aid, their actions certainly assisted in saving the man’s life.“

Man violently attacked in Top End

A MAN is in hospital with serious injuries after he was attacked with a weapon at Palmerston overnight.

NT Police received reports of the violent altercation between three people about 8pm on Temple Tce, near the intersection of Roystonea Ave.

NT Police found a 36-year-old man with serious injuries and said he had been assaulted with an “edged” weapon.

The man was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital and remains in a serious but stable condition.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier said police investigations were ongoing.

Group of young girls arrested

SIX girls have been arrested by police for assault and a number of property offences including breaking into and damaging council chambers in Alice Springs.

NT Police allege the group of children were involved in various offences including breaking into properties on Gregory Tce and Todd St on Sunday night.

NT Police allege three members, two 12-year-olds and a 13-year-old, used a steel pole to break into council chambers about 11.15pm on Monday.

Police allege the girls smashed a window to enter the building, and then smashed computer screens and a window inside the chamber.

The Wednesday arrests come after two boys, aged 13 and 14, were charged with unlawful entry and damage to property on Tuesday.

Three other children, aged 10, 13 and 14, will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.

Police also allege five of the girls were involved in stealing from a Hartley St business and the assault of an employee about 2.15pm on Tuesday.

Detectives from Strike Force Viper arrested six girls on Tuesday.

A 12-year-old was charged with two counts of unlawful entry, five counts of damage to property, one count of aggravated assault, two counts of stealing and three counts of trespassing.

The girl was remanded to appear in court on Wednesday.

Another 12-year-old was charged with two counts of unlawful entry, five counts damage to property, three counts stealing, one count of possessing stolen property and three counts of trespassing.

The girl was remanded to appear in court on Wednesday.

A third 12-year-old was charged with one count of unlawful entry, one count of damage to property and one count of stealing.

The girl was remanded to appear in court on Wednesday.

A 13-year-old was charged with two counts of unlawful entry, five counts of damage to property, three counts of stealing and three counts of trespassing.

The girl was remanded to appear in court on Wednesday.

A 14-year-old was charged with one count of stealing and one count of serious breach of bail.

The girl was remanded to appear in court on Wednesday.

Another 14-year-old was charged with one count of damage to property and one count of unlawful entry.

She was bailed and will appear in court on July 28.

Detective Senior Sergeant Robert Kent said the arrests and charges were due to the ongoing investigations into the offences by Strike Force Viper.

“We would like to thank the public for the information that has been provided and would continue to urge anyone who witnesses property offences to make contact on 131 444 or in an emergency call triple-0.”

Car seized for hooning in CBD

A CAR that was used to do burnouts in the Alice Springs CBD before allegedly T-boning another vehicle has been impounded by police.

Around 2am on Sunday, CCTV captured a vehicle performing doughnuts at the Todd St and Stott Tce intersection.

Police were later notified of a two vehicle crash involving the same car on Todd St, before it drove away from the scene.

The vehicle was found on Espie St, following investigations by members of the Southern Traffic Operations Unit, Alcohol Policing Unit and general duties.

NT Police seized the vehicle for hooning offences and impounded it for 48 hours.

Inquiries continue to identify the driver of the vehicle at the time of the offending.

Man arrested at ferry after pot found in pants

A MAN has been arrested after allegedly stashing drugs in his pants and attempting to smuggle them into an Aboriginal community.

NT Police allege on Sunday morning a man attempted to board a Cullen Bay Ferry to the Tiwi Islands but was refused by a terminal security guard due to his disorderly behaviour.

Police were called to the terminal about 10.30am after receiving reports of the disturbance.

The man was apprehended and, after a search, NT Police found 91g of cannabis stashed in his pants.

The man was arrested and charged with one count of drug possession in a traffic quantity, one count of supplying a dangerous drug in an Aboriginal community, one count of disorderly behaviour in a public place and one count of damage to property.

Wrecked car found abandoned in Darwin

A BANGED-UP silver Holden Commodore was found abandoned at Fannie Bay early on Monday morning.

NT Police received reports the car had crashed into a light pole on Ross Smith Ave about 5am.

The collision knocked down a pole and left mass amounts of debris scattered around the area.

NT Police found the vehicle abandoned.

It is unknown if anyone was injured during the incident.

St John Ambulance NT said they had not received any reports of the crash.

Police are conducting an ongoing investigation into the collision.

Boy arrested after two-year police investigation

AFTER two years of investigating, NT Police arrested a 17-year-old boy in Alice Springs for allegedly breaking into, damaging and stealing from a Tennant Creek supermarket.

NT Police allege the boy forced entry, caused damage to the supermarket and stole cash between 5.15pm and 5.25pm on October 17, 2020.

NT Police investigations took two years to identify the boy as the alleged offender in the incident.

Ongoing inquiries by police identified the boy as living in Alice Springs.

NT Police Strike Force Viper arrested the 17-year-old on Friday morning and took him to Alice Springs Watch House.

He was charged with one count of unlawful entry to a building, one count of damage to property and one count to stealing.

He was bailed and will appear in court on July 4.

Meanwhile, NT Police are investigating an unlawful entry after a group of youths broke into MLA Bill Yan’s office in Alice Springs overnight.

NT Police received reports of about nine youths kicking the door in of the politician’s building.

An alarm was triggered and the group ran away.

Police are investigating the unlawful entry.
