A man has died and a woman has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition following a collision on a central Alice Springs road.
A Holden Commodore, with two men and a woman aboard, collided with a Nissan Micra, with a single occupant, while travelling along South Terrace in The Gap about 10.20pm Wednesday.
A 54-year-old man died at the scene as a result of the crash, while a 44-year-old woman is currently in a serious but stable condition.
Police said they suspected intoxication and distraction were a factor in the crash.
Major Crash Investigation Unit detective urged anyone in the vicinity of South Terrace and Bernstead St in The Gap to come forward and assist with inquiries.
Police also ask eye witnesses or anyone with dash cam or CCTV footage to contact their nearest police station on 131 444, or alternatively Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The latest death brings the Territory’s road toll to 11 for 2024, up from just one at this time last year.
It is also the eighth death for February.
The NT did not reach 11 road deaths until September 9 in 2023.
