A driver killed in a tragic single-vehicle crash has been identified as police reveal a disturbing finding in the initial investigation.
NT Police said the driver of a vehicle that rolled on an unsealed road near Douglas-Daly on Tuesday was a 22-year-old man.
The man is the latest victim of the NT’s alarming road toll.
As investigations continue, Remote Sergeant Craig Tregea said it appeared the man was not wearing a seatbelt.
“At this stage it appears the victim was not wearing a seatbelt, which may have tragically resulted in him losing his life,” he said.
“A report will now be prepared for the Coroner.”
Sergeant Tregea said investigations were ongoing, and Pine Creek members remained at the scene about 110km west of Pine Creek for most of Tuesday.
The crash shut Jungawa Rd to all motorists.
Territory Duty Superintendent James Gray-Spence on Tuesday said members from Pine Creek were called to the scene shortly before 5am.
“It is believed the person was the sole occupant of the vehicle,” Superintendent Gray-Spence said.
This was the second fatal crash NT Police were called to on Tuesday morning.
