A young Katherine cop accused of choking a woman has faced the court.
Mason Hambley, 21, appeared in Katherine Local Court on Monday over an alleged aggravated assault in Katherine.
The 21-year-old police officer was initially charged with aggravated assault, with a new charge of choking, strangling or suffocating added later.
NT Police that Hambley indecently assaulted a woman on Tuesday August 23.
It is alleged the woman suffered harm as a result of the officer’s attack.
The alleged assault took place only 16 months into his Territory policing career.
A Northern Territory Police Association newsletter said Hambley graduated from Auxiliary Squad 67 on April 1, 2021.
On Monday Judge David Woodroffe presided over Hambley’s first mention for the alleged attack.
Hambley was granted bail, and was due to next appear on September 8.
The 21-year-old was one of four NT Police officers spectacularly charged over a 48-hour period, including highly decorated Acting Senior Sergeant Neil Mellon.
There is no allegation that any of the charges against the four officers are related.
