Thieves have entered a residence through an unlocked door while the occupants were home, found a set of keys and stolen a green Ford ute.

THIEVES have entered a residence through an unlocked door while the occupants were home, found a set of keys and stolen a green Ford ute.

Senior Sergeant Vicki Koum  said the residents were home when the thieves entered about 10pm on Monday and stole the ute with  the registration SUNTZU from the East Side Alice Springs residence.

“It’s a reminder to people out there to ensure that you lock your premises, even if you’re at home,” Sen Sgt Koum said.

“Try not to leave your keys where it’s obvious or in plain sight.

“If anyone has any information regarding the incident please call Crime Stoppers.”

The green stolen ute is still missing and incident remains under investigation.

‘Bloody idiot’ driver blows five times the limit

NT Police have described a 39-year-old man who blew over five times the legal limit in Palmerston in the early hours of Thursday morning as a “bloody idiot”.

At around 2am on Thursday, Palmerston police officers pulled over a driver of a maroon Nissan Outlander near Strawbridge Crescent in Woodroffe.

Police carried out a breath analysis test on the 39-year-old, which returned a reading of 0.256 BAC, more than five times the legal limit.

Northern Watch Commander Len Turner said he would like to remind drivers that when people choose to drink-drive, they place both the community and themselves at risk.

“In this particular case, with the driver being five times over the legal limit, all I can say is he is a bloody idiot,” he said.

Commander Turner said the driver is expected to be charged and remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court at a later time.

Dog squad catches man allegedly trying to break into Darwin apartment complex

THE dog squad was brought in to find a man who was “heavily intoxicated on a psychotropic substance” after he allegedly tried to break into a Darwin apartment complex.

Police have charged the 24-year-old after he allegedly tried to enter the Buffalo Crt complex about 1.40am on Friday.

It is alleged the man has entered from the underground carpark area of the complex, damaging a door before entering a ground floor office.

The occupant heard the man entering and confronted him before he fled the scene.

The dog squad was deployed and the man was found nearby where he was arrested by police.

He is facing a raft of charges including unlawful entry and possessing a traffickable quantity of a schedule one drug.

The man will face court at a later date.

Man facing sexual assault charges

NT Police have arrested a man for an alleged sexual assault on a family member.

Police received a report on Thursday from the victim claiming a relative had assaulted her that morning.

The alleged offender was located and arrested shortly afterwards in a community in the Katherine region.

The 54-year-old man was charged with sexual intercourse without consent and remanded in custody to appear in Katherine Local Court Friday.

Mindil Beach sexual assault charges

A MAN has been charged by Northern Territory police in relation to a sexual assault that occurred in Darwin earlier this year.

The 27-year-old male was arrested on Thursday morning for allegedly sexually assaulting a 21-year-old female in the area of Mindil Beach on June 5.

Detectives from the Sex Crimes Unit have charged the man with one count of sexual intercourse without consent.

He was remanded to appear before Darwin Local Court on Thursday.

Cops arrest man after alleged aggravated assault

Police have arrested a man in relation to an alleged aggravated assault which left a woman with a head injury in the Barkly region.

Police say the man and woman, both aged 35, were at an outstation when an argument broke out and the man allegedly struck the woman to the back of the head with an edged weapon.

The woman sustained a serious head injury and was transported to the Tennant Creek Hospital before being medevaced to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Community residents located the man who had fled into nearby bushland and held him until police arrived and he was subsequently arrested and transported to the Tennant Creek watch house.

Tennant Creek detectives are conducting inquiries and expected to lay charges on Wednesday.

Man in his 70s charged with sexual assault

NT Police have charged a 71-year-old Berrimah man with 10 different counts of sexual assault, aggravated assault and gross indecency.

The man will face court on one count of sexual assault, four counts of sexual assault and 5 counts of gross indecency.

He is currently remanded in custody and will appear in Darwin Local Court on Wednesday.

Man ‘sells’ tobacco to kids

A Katherine man, who allegedly sold tobacco to children from a house, has been charged by police.

On Tuesday September 14, Strike Force Cerberus officers in Katherine conducted an undercover operation.

Police arrested a 76-year-old man and executed a search warrant upon his residence.

During the search warrant, police located an unsecured firearm under the man’s bed.

Nine more firearms in the residence were also seized.

The man was charged with selling less than 25g of tobacco and failing to comply with firearm storage requirements.

Superintendent Craig Garland said it was “absolutely deplorable that people would benefit from selling tobacco to children”.

“To then compound his offending by having an unsecure firearm in the community, shows a flagrant disregard for the law,” he said.

The man was bailed to appear in Katherine Local Court on September 28.

Alice Springs, Tennant Ck break-ins

NT Police have been kept busy overnight with five reports of break and enters across the Territory overnight.

Acting Senior Sergeant Allan Milner said police received a call from a residence on Erumba St in Alice Springs when someone tried to break into a shed on the premises.

“The point of attempted entry was a shed door, the offenders were unsuccessful at removing any property,” he said.

“Forensics will be testing this morning.”

“They damaged the front door to gain entry and what was stolen is not known yet, police will be attending the scene sometime this morning,” Sen Sgt Milner said.

Another Alice Springs residence on the Stuart Hwy was also broken into overnight and had items stolen.

“The point of entry was an unsecured front door three gaming consoles were stolen,” he said.

“Forensics have been requested to attend and see if they can locate any DNA or fingerprints.”

A Tennant Creek residence on Ford Cres was also broken into overnight.

“The entry point is unknown, possibly the laundry door or bedroom window,” he said.

“Stolen was a PlayStation.”

Meanwhile, a motor vehicle stolen from the Alice Springs Centre Plumbing early Monday morning was located.

“The vehicle was recovered in the Hoppy’s residential community in Alice Springs,” he said.

“Forensic would have attended (Monday) afternoon to conduct an assessment and hopefully we get some results back from that.”

In addition, Sen Sgt Milner said that between 5pm on September 10 and 7am on September 13th, a vacant residential premises on Hartley St in Alice Springs was broken into and had its front door damaged.

“Nothing was stolen because the premise was vacant,” Sen Sgt Milner said.

Mustang hoons caught on CCTV doing burnouts in Darwin CBD

A DRIVER was caught on CCTV hooning and doing burnouts in a Ford Mustang outside the Woolworths CBD carpark early this morning, NT Police say.

The male driver did a number of burnouts just outside of the Woolworths carpark around 12.45am, Acting Senior Sergeant Xavier McMahon said.

The car was located in a nearby carpark by a CCTV operator but the driver and his passengers left the scene before police arrived, Sen Sgt McMahon told ABC radio.

“The registered owner of the vehicle was contacted and he informed police that he lent the car to a friend for the night,” he said.

“The registered owner is helping the police with inquiries”

“We’ll catch up with him [the driver] at a later date.”

The vehicle will be seized for 48-hours under anti-hooning legislation, Sen Sgt McMahon said.

He said the incident could have had much worse ramifications if the driver had lost control while hooning.

“There’s a time and place, not on a public street at 12.45am, when there is a number of members of the public about,” he said.
