The court heard at 8pm on August 6, Samy attended Lasseters with Katrina Rankin, the mother of his three children, and they drank alcohol together.
The pair later returned to Ms Rankin’s residence in Alice Springs, where Samy became angry and started yelling at Ms Rankin about cigarettes, throwing a child’s toy and a hairdryer from the balcony on to the driveway.
The court heard Samy yelled at Ms Rankin for about 40 minutes before she called police.
He was later arrested and found to be intoxicated.
Defence lawyer Karina Curry-Hyde said the damage was worth an estimated $20. “CCTV shown to me showed the pair were drinking together,” Ms Curry-Hyde said.
She said Samy had replaced the hairdryer after damaging it.
“Mr Samy left the house as Ms Rankin asked him to do.
“It’s clear alcohol is an issue for Mr Samy and he intends to address this.”
Judge David Bamber warned Samy to heed the seriousness of DVOs.
“Given the police were called and the victim said she did not feel safe, it was a significant event,” he said.
Samy was given a suspended sentence of 21 days in prison and $350 in fines.
